The field work involves a combination of mountain climbing and live-trapping surveys of small mammals in the Puna de Atacama and other remote regions of the Andes that are largely unexplored by biologists. These surveys have yielded new world records for multiple species of mice living on or near the summits of \u0026gt;6000 m (\u0026gt;20,000’) volcanoes. Such elevations were previously thought to be completely uninhabitable by mammals.
