 “The Journey Continues to the Caribbean Islands”

This year’s evening will begin with a Caribbean theme originating in Trinidad and Tobago where steel drums were invented in 1939. It was the only acoustic musical instrument invented in the 20th century and has become a transformative sound throughout the world. During the cocktail period of the Three Island BBQ you will be transported by way of melodic vibes of the Caribbean, as master of steel drums, Raymond Charles, who hails from Trinidad and Tobago, plays two steel drums at once to start your journey for the evening. We will also have  dancing and music provided by one of New York’s best party DJs, Victor Lesser from Manhattan City Music who is a very talented musician and DJ. Steel Band player Raymond Charles’ band is Caribbean Authentics. Casual island dress and summer attire is suggested.

A full bar will be included with Caribbean cocktails (Pina Coladas & Rum Punch). PASSED HORS D’OEUVRES include Caribbean specialties Conch Fritters, Remoulade Dip, Flying Fish Mini Tacos, Mini Sweet Potato Fritters. BUFFET DINNER Classic Jerk Chicken (mix of breasts & thighs on the grill) Caribbean Spiced Pork Tenderloin (on the grill) Black Bean and Mango Salsa & Fresh Pineapple Served on the Side Coconut Rice with Herbs & Lime Zest.  Vegetarian offering includes Ginger Kelp Vegan Burgers & Impossible Burgers. Join Explorers Club 50 honoree and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Gregg Treinish and learn about the intersection of exploration, citizen science, and the future of conservation efforts.

Gregg will share what can happen when we harness the passion of the outdoor community to help tackle some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges and ways fellow adventurers and explorers can get involved. Adventure Scientists, the conservation nonprofit Gregg founded in 2011, is built on the idea that adventurers—those who traverse the most remote and rugged parts of the planet—are uniquely positioned to gather critical data that would otherwise be inaccessible. From tracking illegal timber through DNA analysis, to monitoring microplastics in oceans and rivers, to collecting biodiversity data in partnership with California’s 30x30 initiative, Gregg’s talk will highlight stories from his own adventures as well as stories from the field with Adventure Scientists.

Our Rugby Shirts are inspired by the ones that rock climbers and mountaineers used in the 1970s, prior to the sport’s popularity. Climbers would often use army surplus and thrift stores to supply expeditions.

Kånken was created as far back as 1978 to help prevent back problems among Swedish school children and quickly became a common sight at preschools and nature schools throughout the country. Today, 35 years later, Kånken has straightened millions of backs across the globe and has become one of Fjällräven's most beloved products. This classic backpack is equally suited to journeys to and from school or work, as it is to trekking and travelling -- and exploring!

The material is hard-wearing, lightweight Vinylon F fabric that is able to withstand dirt and wetness.
