Introducing the Safari Jacket: a fully functional men's bush jacket designed for function, comfort and style. This pewter green jacket – made by our friends at Avedon & Colby – was born out of first hand experience, as well as input from local African species preservation groups and regional anti-poaching projects.
The African safari was a rite of passage for the English gentry after WWI and even into WWII. Most of the safari dress code came from the local military, as they adapted perfectly to environmental and functional needs. Eventually, the style made its way to the American political and social sphere, and morphed into an idiom of its own.
As far as configuration is concerned, little changed. Modifications, if any, come from fabrics that were climatologically more compatible. The leather “Sam Browne” belt (a belt with shoulder strap that officers wore to carry a ceremonial sword) was eventually deemed unnecessary and removed.
Today, our Safari Jacket – although classic in style – embodies a host of changes in both fabric and design, all geared to significantly improve field functionality.
New details include:
- Reinforced, working "X" box secured epaulets : with keeper guides to ensure canteen and camera straps remain in comfort - high on the shoulder
- Custom navy Explorers Club embroidery on left sleeve, exclusive to this product
- Notched pocket flaps : that allow easy tuck-in to the pocket bag and better access to contents
- Set above the chest pockets,: both sides, security zip closure drop-behind document(passport) and valuable pockets
- Lower, full bellows pockets: with hand entry pockets behind them
- Our Signature side panel construction: eliminates torque transfer front to back for greater freedom of motion
- Signature articulated elbows: works with bending the arm without pull-back at the cuff
- Half belt detail on back: for individual adjustment at waist
- Side "stride" vents and bi-swing pleats: for added comfort and freedom of movement
- Classic Jacket Lapel: Features the classic style safari jacket lapel.
- Signature roll-up sleeve: with hold tab to exterior button; 7" sleeve placket for true "roll-up" allowance
