Join The Explorers Club 50 honoree and archaeologist George Bey in a conversation surrounding the current role and future of exploration in the 21st century.

What does it mean to be an explorer in the modern world? How do we think about the nature and role of exploration in the 21st century and how has the explorer changed since the Explorers Club and Smithsonian Institution were founded? Is there a role for the traditional idea of the explorer or has a new explorer completely replaced the old ideas on exploration? This talk will feature a look at Bey’s work and other EC50 members as examples of 21st century explorers. Smithsonian Museum Specialist Bethanee Bemis and Explorers Club archivist Lacey Flint will join the conversation - adding historical context that will help inform the idea of explorer in the 21st Century.

In-person tickets are $20 for Members, and $35 for the General Public.
Check-in will begin at 6:00 pm, with a beer and wine reception from 6:00 – 7:00 pm
