Join the Explorers Club on Monday, February 3rd, for a botanical expedition around the world with plant explorer and Keeper of the Living Collections at the Arnold Arboretum Michael Dosmann.

Over one-third of tree species in the world are now threatened with extinction and in need of preservation. Our gardens and managed landscapes, including urban forests, require new and novel plants to excel. And, let’s face it, there is still so much we do not know about our ever-changing natural world. For these and other reasons, plant exploration – documenting and collecting wild plant diversity – is alive and well in 2025 and not just a pursuit of a bygone Victorian Era. In this presentation, veteran plant explorer Michael Dosmann uses examples from his own expeditions in Asia and North America to compare and contrast the historic and modern plant hunter. He places these activities in the context of scholarship, global change, preservation of rarities, and the search for improved garden plants.

In-person tickets are $20 for Members, and $35 for the General Public.
Check-in will begin at 6:00 pm, with a beer and wine reception from 6:00 – 7:00 pm
