Join Explorers Club President Emeritus and retired United States Navy Captain Alfred Scott McLaren to hear about some of the first manned dives to the World War II wreck of the German DKM Bismarck battleship.

In May 1941, the German Battleship Bismarck was scuttled after a battle with the British Navy and sunk to the North Atlantic Ocean floor at a depth of over 4,800 meters. In 2001, President Emeritus Captain Alfred Scott McLaren, USN (Ret.), Ph.D. dove to the wreck as part of the Deep Ocean Expeditions team for a National Geographic program aboard the Mir-1 submersible. Combined with a second dive with Deep Ocean Expeditions and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in 2002, Capt. McLaren’s total time viewing/photographing Bismarck at close range was more than twelve hours.

In-person tickets are $20 for Members, and $35 for the General Public.
Check-in will begin at 6:00 pm, with a beer and wine reception from 6:00 – 7:00 pm
