Truly Wild
Regular price $35.50Join The Explorers Club and Dr. Max Graham, founder of Space for Giants, as he shares a raw and revealing journey from Africa’s wildest and remote corners to the corridors of power. Through stories of triumph and failure, science and politics, he exposes the real challenges-and enduring hope-behind efforts to protect Africa’s wildlife and the wild places they call home.
Africa’s iconic landscapes span rainforests to deserts, wetlands to savannahs. This biodiversity is essential to climate resilience, livelihoods, and could hold the keys to future innovations and pharmaceutical breakthroughs. However, these areas are under extreme pressure, and if not protected, will be lost forever.
Space for Giants works across Africa’s iconic landscapes to unlock the full value of nature by protecting biodiversity and remaining populations of megafauna, while expanding economic, cultural, and social value for local communities and national governments for generations to come.
Hear Max’s stories of Space for Giants‘ conservation efforts, including the journey to bring Uganda’s largest wildlife reserve, Pian Upe, a “paper park” back to life. There are 8,400 protected areas in Africa of which over 90% are “paper parks” with little or no management presence on the ground. As a consequence they are highly degraded. Their restoration is not just key for the preservation of Africa’s natural heritage-it is key to the global battle to combat climate change…and so Pian Upe’s restoration and protection gives us hope for all of these paper parks and, indeed, the world.
