Join The Explorers Club on October 26th to hear about the ongoing and ambitious conservation project aiming to protect an endangered bat species.
Each year, endangered Mexican long-nosed bat mothers embark on a remarkable 750+ mile migration across Mexico and the Southwest United States, following the seasonal bloom of agave plants that fuel their journey. But as these plants disappear, so too does their migratory pathway. Join bat conservationist Dr. Kristen Lear as she follows these elusive nocturnal migrants across landscapes, borders, and nearly two decades of her own conservation career. What began as a fascination with bats grew into a mission to understand not only where these bats go, but what they need to survive along the way. That journey ultimately led to the co-founding of Bat Conservation International’s Earthshot Prize-nominated Agave Restoration Initiative, the world’s first multi-national, landscape-scale restoration effort for migratory bats, working to restore the agaves these bats depend on while supporting the people and communities who share and steward these landscapes.
